Swoll, an electronic act based in Baltimore, began releasing music in 2018 before playing any shows. That collection of recorded materials the self-titled debut LP (SWOLL) which largely began as a collaboration between Matt Dowling (The EFFECTS, Deleted Scenes, Paperhaus) and Ben Schurr (Br’er, Luna Honey), who has produced numerous acts under his collective/label Blight. Dowling, who existed almost exclusively as an indie rock bassist in his previous musical life, had begam writing songs in full, but was unsure of how to move forward with them. “I felt like what Ben was doing with the Blight Collective was a really good fit with the directions of my songs, and once we started tracking everything just snapped into place. Even though singing felt super weird to me, the momentum allowed me to get over that and just use my voice as a new weapon.”
SWOLL is Matt Dowling (vocals/bass), Erik Sleight (drums), Zak Forrest (lights)

Natural Velvet is an indie pop/post-punk quartet from Baltimore, Maryland. They write songs about feminine rage, desire and youth and decay in the internet age. During their 10 years NV has incubated a noise both precious and pointed, with whirlwind guitars tethered to the rhythmic of rolling bass and drums, clearing the stage for Ostermann’s coos and croons, culminating into a twisted but addictive fantasy. Forming in a 2013 Baltimore basement, their sound has been influenced by the ebb and flow of American city life as well as hunger for sustainable creativity in an uniquely surreal era to be alive. With a strong focus on guitar polyphony and aggression, NV tries to upholster the room with infectious melodies and tones just in time to rip it all apart.
The release of their latest album "Perma-Blues", recorded by J. Robbins (Jawbox) at Magpie Cage Studios in Baltimore, MD, shows a transition from dark, brooding noise pop to somber, introspective rock and a warmer embrace of early oughts indie pop. With a focus on digital archival of the soul, finding the light at the end of the tunnel and maintaining strength in the face of adversity, NV takes the pain from the last four years on Earth and turns it into fuel, albeit at times fleeting from grasp to make space for the next good thing.
