The Sleeveens came into existence in December of 2022, but their origins date back a little further to 2019 when Stiff Little Fingers Guitar Tech James Mechan met Irish Punk Troubadour Stefan Murphy and talked about making a solo record for the latter at his Studio in Nashville TN. The pandemic soon put an end to those particular plans but when Murphy moved to Nashville three years later, the pair got to work on some recordings with the help of Ryan Sweeney (Cheap Time) on Drums and Eli Steele (Sweet Knives) on lead guitar. The Sleeveens first 7 inch single, ‘Give My Regards To The Dancing Girls’, proved something of a staple on underground radio. This then opened the door to the group signing to Dirtnap Records and the early 2024 release of their self-titled debut album with singles ‘Aretha Franklin’ and ‘Metallica Font’ getting equal love out there in the world of independent radio.
Inspired By The Modern Lovers, The Undertones, Protex, The Fall, The Buzzcocks, The Only Ones, Velvet Underground, Wire, Ramones and The Saints (and, of course, the Pistols and the Clash). Lyrically, full of abstract social commentary and stories of the streets. Passionate And Lo Fi - Often compared to The Stiff / Chiswick records output and other classic punk / pub rock / new wave of the late 70s and early 80s.
Dot Dash is a post-punk pop band from D.C. The Washington Post said: “Everything we've ever read about Dot Dash plays up the group's collective resume: Singer/guitarist Terry Banks was in St. Christopher and the Saturday People before teaming up with bassist Hunter Bennett in acclaimed indie-rock band Julie Ocean and drummer Danny Ingram co-founded harDCore band Youth Brigade. Very impressive. But we're more interested in the music, a retro cocktail that recalls the yearning indie-pop of Sarah Records; the '80s neo-Byrds jangle of R.E.M., Orange Juice and other seminal college radio artists, and tight, throbbing basslines and slashing guitars that evoke the Jam and the Clash.
