Luna Honey 7” Single Release w/ Hissing Tiles, GRÜN WASSER, S Y Z Y G Y X
Doors at 7 | Show at 8
Advance $10 | Day of $12
Luna Honey has teamed up with Minneapolis-based Wax Lead to release a split 7″ vinyl featuring a track from each band. The two acts met in October 2018 when Luna Honey was on tour in Minneapolis and they bonded over shared music influences.
Luna Honey draws on influences from The Birthday Party, Carla Bozulich, Nico, Swans, and Dead Can Dance to combine murky bass grooves with haunting vocals for a sound that ranges from darkly hypnotic to an unmoored fervor. Their songs examine what it means to grow older, to let go of guilt, to embrace fear, and to find the balance between safety and a meaningful existence.
Hissing Tiles is a power trio from Cincinnati, OH consisting of Patrick Apfelbeck (drums), Michael Squeri (guitars/vocals), and Erik Ziedses des Plantes (bass/vocals). Originally formed under the name “Gazer” in late 2012, their sound has evolved over time from nimble, hard-hitting stabs of noise punk to include more expansive and textural elements, combining the grit and roar of punk and hardcore with the contemplative pulse, atmosphere and repetition commonly found in electronic music and the avant-garde. They are currently touring behind the release of their 2019 LP Boychoir, released by the experimental label Whited Sepulchre.
Arising at the forefront of contemporary underground pop, Chicago-based duo GRÜN WASSER shapes the course of minimal electronic music and blurs the boundaries of art, songwriting and performance on their latest full-length “Not Ok with Things” out October 4, 2019. Vocalist Keely Dowd and producer Essej Pollock artfully bend and reconfigure popular trends in dance music into unconventionally catchy songs and a powerful live show. Their unique mix of hardware, software and sampling coalesce into irresistible rhythms and driving sequences that fuse perfectly with Dowd’s distinctive alto voice, forming music that is as instantly appealing as it is fascinating.
S Y Z Y G Y X
Bleak post apocalyptic soundscapes fused with retro punk biting synth lines and minor scale hooks fuel the sound of the DC duo S Y Z Y G Y X. Luna Blanc and Josh Clark (DJ Impulse, Sinthetix, Corrupt Souls) are always taking turns on everything in their sound: vocals, arps, riffs, bass, drums, pads, and the production/engineering of the different aspects of their sound. They are currently working on their second LP, “Fading Bodies,” to be released in the fall of 2019 under the label partnership of Negative Gain Productions (US) and Cold Transmission (EU).
