Baby Kahlo, also known as Kahlo Muerto, is one of Baltimore’s rising, female rappers. Inspired by the style and art of Mexican artist Frida Kahlo, she commands attention from everyone anytime she enters a room.
Growing up, Kahlo’s mother did not allow her to listen to much Hip Hop and R&B. However, her father was a well-known DJ in the Baltimore area in the 90’s. Kahlo would see him on the weekends, and he would insist on teaching her the history of Hip Hop and Soul music. From there, her love for the music began and she could not go a day without listening. She would listen to her favorite songs and rap along as if she was filming the video herself.
Her own music is inspired by the likes of both 2Pac and Willow Smith. It’s sharp, but playful with her flirtatious, yet fiery, lyrics. Kahlo released her debut single, “Kahlo’s Freestyle,” in February of 2017. Since then, Kahlo has performed for numerous events in Baltimore, New York, Atlanta, Philadelphia, and all over the DMV. In June of this 2018, Kahlo was apart of Atlanta artist, Bali Baby’s Play Girl World Tour. In October of 2018 and 2019 Baby Kahlo performed at A3C’s Care Free Black Girl stage in Atlanta, Georgia. Baby Kahlo is Scheduled to perform at SXSW 2020 in March. Her debut mixtape is scheduled to be released in February of 2020. You can find Baby Kahlo’s Music on any music streaming platform.
Cutting edge fusion group Throwdown Syndicate represents a culmination of the last 40 years of Hard Rock & Metal blended with the last 40 Years of Funk & Hip-Hop. The Washington DC trio was created with the purpose of melding the brutality of Heavy Metal with the lyrical skill and intensity of Hip-Hop. Now, you might be thinking, “Rap-Metal sucks,” but we’re far from your ordinary rap or meta.
Purple Hurt is genre defying band of your dreams. Formed in the DMV, the band is creating their own lane. THe only way to describe their sound is Sacardic, a self defined genre that refuses to be boxed in. With colorful chords performed by Hurtful C on guitar, Intoxicating screams by Sednah on vocals, blood pumping rhythms by Baby Zesus on drums, melancholy melodies from Helmet Gyal on bass, and space altering synths by Ib K. on the keys, Purple Hurt is giving transcendence. They’re giving multi dimensions. They’re giving unapologetic authenticity. They’re giving “come see them live.”
Anexis. has always worn many hats. Whether it be with his character or his craft, he has never been one to strictly define himself. Like his many nicknames, he is ever-changing. There are two things about Anexis. that will never change though, his love for black people and his passion for music. These are the guiding pillars of his life. The driving force behind every move he makes. They are what gives him his purpose.
Born in The Bronx, the young DJ-songwriter-entrepreneur-lover absorbed the weirdness and grime of the city that raised him and wears it on his sleeve wherever his travels take him. For as long as he can remember he’s had an ear for talent, and he’s been able to connect and collaborate with some of the most promising up-and-coming artists in the game because of it. He currently the touring DJ for the DMV’s own Stephn as well as being the co-founder of his own music group called The Pharmacist. On top of everything he does in the music game he also serves as an ambassador for Reebok and for Cross Colours, using both as yet another creative outlet for him to express himself and showcase his experience. Like we said, he wears a lot of hats.
