Bay Area-based group Spiritual Cramp may best be recognized for band member Michael Bingham, formerly of post-hardcore outfit Creative Adult and post-post-hardcore outfit Self Defense Family. But Spiritual Cramp bears little resemblance to either, instead leaning on danceable post-punk, driven by Bingham’s sonorous vocals. It’s a sound created by a whole gang of musicians (six in total), who combine their talents for a wildly energetic live show and the kind of catchy, rhythmic songwriting perfect for upbeat DJ sets. They may take their name from a song by dour ur-goth band Christian Death, but Spiritual Cramp’s own output is charming yet unassuming, and most of all very fun. – Revolver Mag
